EXPOSITION AND RELATED EVENTS
Hands-on room
on The Learning Process
Among the many events celebrating the 400th Anniversary of
Quebec City, there will be a special exhibit at the Musée de la
civilisation,
Quebec’s Museum of Civilization,
on the learning process. How exactly do we learn? Is the
learning process the same for everyone? For what purpose do we
learn? Questions abound, and many will be answered in this
discovery zone.
The exhibit is a fascinating educational experience resulting
from the partnership between the Fédération des établissements
d’enseignement privés, the Musée de la civilisation and
Industrielle Alliance. It will
be presented as a hands-on room inviting visitors to better
understand the learning process through a series of interactive
displays.
What is truly innovative in this unprecedented initiative is
that 14 teachers from primary school, high school and special
needs children education sector have contributed to the
exhibition’s design and completion. All these teachers were
registered in activities organized by the Musée de la
civilisation’s Centre de muséopédagogie (Museoeducation Centre)
that headed the project, and all were involved in developing and
operating the various displays for this unique exhibit.
The hands-on room will officially open on June 10, 2008 and will
remain open for visitors for the following 18 months. The 1000
convention delegates expected at the Congrès international de
l’enseignement privé (International Private Education
Convention) a few months later will be invited to visit the
hands-on room during a cocktail that will be held at the Museum
on August 21, 2008.
Quebec City is the birthplace of education in North America.
Some of FEEP’s member schools trace their beginnings as early as
the French colonial regime. No one can deny the importance
private education has had on the schooling and development of
our youth over this 400-year period. Given this premise, the
FEEP felt pleasantly compelled to actively contribute to Quebec
City’s 400th Anniversary festivities.
