Private education maintains a long tradition of excellence. Quebec is the birthplace of education in America; at the beginning of the colony, only private education existed. In 2008, the 400th anniversary of Champlain’s arrival in Québec in 1608 will be marked with important celebrations. The Fédération des établissements d’enseignement privés (FEEP) in collaboration with l’Association des collèges privés du Québec (ACPQ) is taking advantage of these festivities to invite independent schools, associations of independent schools, government officials and university professors to participate in an international congress in Québec City, Canada from August 19th to the 22nd , 2008. The theme “Private education: tradition, culture and innovation” focuses on three important aspects. Tradition offers the guarantee of quality education; culture, through established values and norms, characterizes and distinguishes private education. Innovation as exerted here and elsewhere, has kept private education at the forefront in a multitude of areas, suggesting new ways of teaching, adapting to change as needed.
